Montana Mom Bailey Boss

D1 Daily is a curated list of anecdotes and links with an eye towards training. The suggestion box is open.

During her pregnancy with her son, Luke, Bailey Boss struggled both physically and mentally.

"I gained 80 pounds during my pregnancy. My mental health was at an all-time low," she said. "I hated the way I looked. I truly couldn't recognize the person in the mirror."

13 months later, Boss has lost those 80 pounds and has found community thanks to D1 Billings in Montana.

She's even gone as far as stepping out of her comfort zone and signing up for a marathon, which she has documented on her Instagram, which has over 1,000 followers.

Boss was introduced to D1 Billings through her friend Andrew Couillard, who is the GM of the location. Her husband, Kyle, even participated in the location's first ever workout.

After gaining some post-partum confidence, Boss decided to give a D1 workout a try.

And despite being a competitive softball player and cross country runner in high school, nothing could prepare her for the difficulty of the workout.

"I remember the first workout was so hard," she said. "I laid on the ground for 15 minutes after class."

Even if the workout was difficult, Boss found herself hooked on D1 because of the community.

"The community really makes or breaks a gym environment," she said. "D1 Billings is by far the most accepting, challenging and encouraging group of people I have ever encountered."

That community is why Boss wakes up at 4:45 a.m. three times a week.

"I'm excited to see my friends and have a great workout. I have never felt that way before," she said. "I have never been this consistent with a workout plan or gym ever in my life."

D1 also helped Boss prepare for her upcoming marathon.

"I gave myself six weeks to get to a point where I could run six miles," she said. "It was the dead of winter in Montana so D1 played a crucial role in being my training on those days."

Now, Boss has gone from running 2 miles to running 19.

And after competing in her first marathon, she doesn't plan on stopping.

"I've already signed up for my second marathon in Boulder, Colorado."
